T O P I C R E V I E WmmmooI am sure you all are aware of these Apollo 15 map sections, which are inscribed as "Flown To The Moon" by Worden, and seem to be only flown to lunar orbit. However the map sections are identical to the Apollo 17 LM lunar surface descent maps sold by Cernan and Apollo 16 LM maps sold by Duke. All three were sections, which were split from a larger map, all three have a large plate number in the top right, and all three have a time remaining until landing on the left side. The Apollo 15 map also originally came from the collection of Dave Scott, not Worden. Scott sold the complete map at Aurora but only mentioned that it was used in lunar orbit. So my question is, is the Apollo 15 map actually from the lunar module and therefore flown to the lunar surface, not just lunar orbit? Or was there a similar map used in the command module?SpaceAholicAccording to the Apollo 15 ASL the following maps were carried:onboard CSM:Lunar Landmark Map (1) SEB32100115-322Orbital Map (1) SKB32100058-201onboard LM:LM Lunar Surface Maps (1) SKB32100116-371(subsequently transferred back from the LM to CSM)mmmooThanks for the reply. Was not the SKB32100058-201 an Earth orbital map?If so, then the only lunar map (apart from the landmarks maps) is the one in the LM (SKB32100116-371) which would still seem to suggest that the Apollo 15 map sections in question are indeed from SKB32100116-371 and therefore flown to the lunar surface?mmmooI am still hoping to find out if anyone has any thoughts on whether these Apollo 15 map sections were actually flown in the LM.SpaceAholicI believe the LM carried map was in book form on cardstock (much like the cue cards).mmmooI don't think that is correct, if you take a look at the COA for Apollo 17 LM Flown Maps it states that the map sections were taped together to form a continuous loop, and were numbered 1 to 18 in the top right corner. The Apollo 15 map sections also have a number in the top right cornerIt seems that it was Command Module Maps that have ring binder holes in themHere are all three maps, all have a plate number in the top right, and number of minutes until touchdown eg. '+1' or '+2' on the leftApollo 15Apollo 16 Flown in LMApollo 17 Flown in LM SpaceAholicMakes sense...rjurek349Don't know if you all did any more research on this topic, but the A15 stowage list indicates three sets of the Orbit Monitor Chart maps flew -- two in the CM and one in the LM. Anyway -- if anyone is interested, I have an extra one of these map plates for sale (with LOA), as well as Dick Gordon's training used complete set of the Orbit Monitor Chart (hand signed and certified by him as used in training). If anyone is interested in those, contact me via email.4allmankindInteresting discussion indeed. Certainly a compelling case for the maps being carried to the surface.
However the map sections are identical to the Apollo 17 LM lunar surface descent maps sold by Cernan and Apollo 16 LM maps sold by Duke.

onboard CSM:
Lunar Landmark Map (1) SEB32100115-322Orbital Map (1) SKB32100058-201
onboard LM:
LM Lunar Surface Maps (1) SKB32100116-371
(subsequently transferred back from the LM to CSM)
Was not the SKB32100058-201 an Earth orbital map?
If so, then the only lunar map (apart from the landmarks maps) is the one in the LM (SKB32100116-371) which would still seem to suggest that the Apollo 15 map sections in question are indeed from SKB32100116-371 and therefore flown to the lunar surface?
